Spring Break 2022 marked our first multiple-nights travel vacation since 2019! A quick drive along I-5 to Salem and a scenic drive along OR-22 and OR-20 got us to Sisters. (For reference, this can easily be done without a charging stop with a modern EV. Hopefully that's how we'll drive there next time!)
After moving into our rental apartment, which had a surprisingly modern design, on Tuesday afternoon, a brief walk through the neighborhood, and a delicious Thai-Asian Fusion take-out dinner, we settled in for the night.
Early Wednesday morning we set out to hike along Whychus creek:
As happens so often, the hike quickly escalated, but we did have a lof of fun getting back out into the woods nevertheless.
After a brief lunch break and nap, we headed over to Bend, where the dogs - as usual - had at least as much fun as we had:
Thursday morning we met up with Steve, my former and now retired boss, to catch up, get a coffee, and go for a walk through the Sisters neighborhood.
Afterwards we went to the Head of the Metolius river, where a surprising amount of water oozes out of the ground and forms a full fledged river over a ~hundred yards. From there we hiked to Camp Sherman and back along the river on the other side.
On our way back we missed the last bridge crossing the Metolius
This posed a challenge and in the end we decided to cross a ford where the water was less than 10" deep. Michaela balanced on a log for a chunk of it, but ultimately there was no way to avoid getting our feet very, very wet. (Except Skittles, who got carried across - given her shorter legs and thick double coat, she was very appreciative of that.)
And before we knew it, Friday had rolled around. Just like at our last visit to Sisters, we stopped for an early morning hike around Suttle Lake before heading home. Good times.
