Wiebke & Johanna 2014

Wiebke & Johanna joined us (and the Oregon Shakespeare Festival) for their annual Oregon trip. As always, it was great to see them again. I really, really like this tradition :)

Here we are in Saint Honore Bakery in Portland where we watched the soccer final (yay, Germany!).

And here we are at WOW! Burger in Wilsonville after a nice day at the beach and before we headed to the movies to watch How to train your dragon 2. Great day!

Happy sixth wedding anniversary :)

This and That

Some random photos from my cell phone:

A beautiful double rainbow on our evening walk:

Pepper after his bath. He was a little bit cold, so I put him in a blanket first to dry off a little, and then turned on the fire place.

Eagerly awaiting Ira Glass and the Two Dancers show in Portland (Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall):

George and Pepper being cute:

Happy Birthday, Jan! (The cake was supposed to be a lemon pound cake. New recipe. Never a good idea. Aaanyways, it turned out to be more of a lemon-flavored rock, so we tossed it. To redeem myself, I slightly changed the recipe and made a new one two days later, and apart from being super sweet (less sugar next time!), it was really good.)

Homemade gluten free pizza using our new pizza stone. YUM!

Roadtrip (!) to the coast on the fourth of July weekend.

Helga & Wolfgang 2014

As mentioned in the previous post about George's unplanned adventure, Helga and Wolfgang were here. They arrived on Thursday evening when I was still at DAMOP and spent Friday not quite as planned. But from there on, it was smooth sailing!

Saturday we went to the Beaverton Farmer's Market to get some fresh veggies and berries. It was still a bit too early in the season for blueberries, but the strawberries were amazing! We ended the evening on a calm note with BBQ in the yard.

Sunday we went to Neskowin for a day at the beach. Helga got comfortable with a good book near Proposal Rock, while Wolfgang joined Jan, Pepper, and me for a nice 2 hour walk on the beach. Always fun!
After a light snack at the Hawk Creek Cafe we headed back home. Since it was still a bit too early we decided to directly drive back to Wilsonville instead of stopping in Salem for dinner at a great Italian place there. So, without the Italian option, we spontaneously decided to give the best burger in Wilsonville a try (WOW! Burgers). And the burgers were really good (including gluten free option for me :)).

Monday meant work for me (it was my first day of summer research with my four students. Couldn't miss that!), so Jan took his parents up to Portland for some good coffee at Sterling.
Afterwards they drove to Pittock Mansion.
And last but not least, when I got home dinner was ready! Which was great since I was pretty tired. BBQ with salmon. YUM!
