I haven't posted in a while (sorry!), so here's a little summary of what has happened since our trip to Germany:
Jan got me vanity plates for my birthday! I've been thinking about getting some for quite some time now. I wanted to get some to celebrate my tenure promotion, but I never really got around to it. So, thanks hubby :)! OPTIX, by the way, is the acronym of our most recent NSF grant (and it's also kinda what I do in my research labs). The extra "S" is Jan's idea, and I think it looks really good!
We had some great walks and lunches with Billie:
Fall is now definitely here, and the leaves started turning:
And the nights got noticeably more chilly. Space heaters and blankets are our pets' best friends!
Halloween has come and gone:
And lastly, we currently have a radioactive kitty! Abby was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism, and the best treatment for a still young cat her age is with radioactive iodine which accumulates primarily in the affected thyroid. Unlike medication which she'd have to take regularly twice a day, and which needs to be monitored with regular blood work check-ups, this treatment completely cures her. So, I dropped her off on Monday, 11/02, and left her at the specialty clinic until Thursday. She did not like the car ride at all and got so upset that she completely soiled herself... both on the way to and from the clinic...urgh.. poor thing (and poor me too!). What a lousy week.
By now she has recovered from the trip and stay at the unfamiliar place and is overall recovering nicely. We still keep her in a separate room at night to prevent her from cuddling up close with us without us noticing, but she's roaming around the house during the day. She's still skinny and not gaining weight despite insane amounts of food. Let's hope she'll get better soon.
UPDATE 12/09/15: I took Abby to the vet today for her follow-up blood work, and she is completely healthy!!!! Yay :).
