Laser World of Photonics

As in every odd year, Laser World of Photonics happened in Munich.
I caught the inaugural flight of the re-instated direct PDX-FRA connection (Friday, June 19th 2015). There was a party at the gate to celebrate the occasion serving up classic stereotypes (sorry for the poor picture quality, looks like the lens was a bit fogged up):

Lucky enough I got an exit row seat and actually slept through a good chunk of the flight. Chris and Lucia picked me up at the Munich airport, after waiting an undue amount of time: Condor/Lufthansa managed to loose my luggage. This was doubly grating, as I actually had not intended to check in any luggage at all, but as my carry on weighed more than a puny 6 kg, I had to check it! It's good to have friends - Chris helped me out with clothes until the luggage arrived a day later.

Saturday evening, Chris surprised me with a BBQ (German sausages!!) and a guest: Rene, whom I hadn't seen since my Heidelberg goodbye party on the Neckarwiesen in 2002!

Sunday was my day off before the conference started - we walked through Munich:

I didn't take any pictures of the conference (always looks the same...). Overall it was very worthwhile though, got a lot of things done.

My parents stopped by on Wednesday and we went to dinner at the Theresa Grill.

The following evening Chris and Lucia joined us in the Conviva:

And on Friday it was back home to Portland (no luggage lost in that direction)! Good trip.
